DANIEL BAGAN
Daniel Bagan | Storyteller, Songwriter and Speaker
Stories about life, memory, faith, fear, joy, sorrow—and everything in between.
I have spent much of my life telling other people’s stories through photography and video. Now, I find myself telling some of my own.
Through original songs, spoken stories and personal reflections, I explore the questions and experiences many of us carry but do not always talk about. Aging. Memory. Faith and doubt. The fear of being exposed. The desire to live honestly. The struggle to make peace with who we are and how little time any of us may have left.
WHY I BEGAN TELLING THESE STORIES
After a three-year battle with cancer, I began looking at my life differently.
I thought more seriously about what I had learned, what I still wanted to say and what I might leave behind for my children, grandchildren and anyone who recognized part of their own life in mine. I did not set out simply to write songs. The songs became a way to tell stories—sometimes deeply personal stories and sometimes stories imagined from inside another person’s experience.
STORIES TOLD THROUGH SONG
Each song begins with a human experience, a difficult question or something I cannot quite put aside.
“Just an Old Man” confronts aging, mortality and the tension between continuing to live and preparing to die.
“I Can’t Remember” imagines the frightening and disorienting world inside the mind of someone living with dementia.
“What If I Believed” explores faith, doubt and the longing to believe when certainty remains out of reach.
“Actor — What If They Find Out” examines the fear that the person others see may only be a role we have learned to play.
“I’m Talking to Me” considers the voice inside us that judges, questions and challenges who we think we are.

LIVE STORYTELLING AND SPEAKING
The songs are becoming the foundation for something larger: live presentations combining music, personal storytelling, photography and honest conversation.
I speak about aging, mortality, faith, identity, memory, fear, creativity and the unexpected discovery of purpose later in life. I also share how surviving cancer changed the way I think about the time I have left and what I want to do with it.
My goal is not to stand before an audience as someone who has found all the answers. It is to create a place where people can recognize themselves, consider the questions they may have avoided and perhaps feel a little less alone.
These presentations can be adapted for churches, retreats, community organizations, creative groups and other gatherings.
EVERY LIFE HAS A STORY
I believe our most meaningful stories are not always the comfortable ones.
They are found in our joy and sorrow, our faith and doubt, our successes and failures, and in the moments when life forces us to see ourselves differently.
This is the work I now feel called to do: tell those stories honestly and invite others into the conversation.
